MELANIE PETERSON AND BLAIR PACKHAM LIVE AT THE FLYING BEAVER PUBARET!
THURSDAY, AUGUST 29 - 7:30pm
MELANIE PETERSON AND BLAIR PACKHAM

Melanie Peterson and Blair Packham make their Pubaret debut.

ABOUT MELANIE:
Saskatoon born Melanie Peterson is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter-actress.  With her aching vibrato and prairie roots, she creates a blend of music which she describes as "a deep love affair between pop melodies and folk ideals". She has recently been getting much attention and acclaim within the city of Toronto.  Melanie has been referred to as "Mary Poppins with a broken heart" by the BBC and has been recognized as  having "a beautiful voice" and being a "terrific songwriter" by Joe Warmington of the Toronto Sun.  She earned a spot within the independent music scene in Toronto last March 2012, when she showcased her original music during Canadian Music Week, at the Royal York Library Bar and then again at the Cameron House for Indie Week. She was invited back to perform two showcases at CMW 2013 and was listed by Richard Flohil as one of the top ten Toronto artists not to be missed. She launched her first full-length album UNBREAKABLE   April 2013 at The Piston in Toronto.

"A melodically enchanting songwriter and musically adept guitarist she has the crowd eating out of her hand" ~ New Moon Magazine
"If you are looking for super live music, check out Melanie Peterson, a terrific singer and songwriter...she sounds just as good live as she does on her album. She has a beautiful voice and her songwriting is tops, too."
~ Toronto Sun

Her songs are currently receiving spins on BBC, CBC Ottawa and Mediazoic Internet radio and  her album is available for purchase on iTunes and Bandcamp .For more information visit:http://melaniepeterson.bandcamp.com

ABOUT BLAIR:
You never know what will come out of Blair Packhamʼs mouth. Reliably, it will be a song, with maybe a comment or two about where the song came from. But sometimes itʼll be a silly joke or an annoyed response to the dayʼs
news. Usually pretty smart, occasionally Blairʼs E-width, size-11 foot goes into his mouth, and he manages to say something particularly stupid. And funny. Itʼs this sort of unpredictability that makes hearing Blair sing so enjoyable.

When Blair first started writing songs, the Clash, Elvis Costello, and XTC were in their heyday, and Blair wore those influences proudly, soon joining a band and going on the road. In the early 1980s, Blair formed a group called The Jitters, who had five Canadian hits, including "Last of the Red Hot Fools" and "Closer Every Day". The band was Juno Award-nominated, and won a Toronto Music Award. Blair started writing music for film and TV after the breakup of The Jitters in 1991, and he continues to write and record his own songs, releasing his music independently to general critical acclaim. In 2013, Blair wears many hats: recording engineer/producer (he coproduced with Ron Sexsmith"Whatever Happened to Christmas" for Andy Kim), broadcaster (Blair co-hosts "In the Studio", a weekend musicmagazine- style radio show on Torontoʼs Newstalk 1010 CFRB) and teacher
(Seneca College). Blair also facilitates an annual songwriting workshop with co-director Rik Emmett.
