Tips for Students on Paving a Future in Journalism
SEATTLE The Society of Professional Journalists Western Washington Professional Chapter will host a live conversation about how to polish your resume in preparation for internship and job seeking season. A panel of experienced newsroom leaders and a recent graduate will talk about what you can do to make your application shine.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 23 at the Hive Media Lab, located at 401 Mercer St., Seattle. Tickets are free, but seating is limited. We will also live stream the event on our Facebook page, located at https://www.facebook.com/spjwash. The panel discussion starts at 7 p.m.

KING 5 news director Peter Saiers
Peter Saiers began his role as KING 5s news director in June, bringing a wealth of experience from his time at CBS owned-and-operated stations in San Francisco, KPIX and KBCW. As managing editor, he led editorial coverage with a focus on enterprise reporting. Prior to his extensive tenure as managing editor, he held the role of nightside executive producer. He joined KPIX from KOVR, the CBS affiliate in Sacramento, where he was a reporter and producer. Most recently he served in an executive producer role at Disney-owned KGO-TV in the Bay Area.
Seattle Times education editor Joy Resmovits
Joy Resmovits is the education editor at The Seattle Times, managing a team of journalists covering K-12 through higher education including Education Lab, a community-funded project focused on solutions. She came to Seattle in 2018 from The Los Angeles Times, where she covered all aspects of schooling. Before that, she spent four years covering national education issues for The Huffington Post. In the 2014-2015 academic year, she was a Spencer Fellow at Columbia University, and focused on researching education for students with disabilities.
Crosscut Emerging Journalist Fellow Liz Brazile
Liz Brazile is an Emerging Journalist Fellow at Crosscut focused on public education in Seattle and Washington State. She is an alumna of YES! Magazine, WLWT-TV, and The Cincinnati Herald. Her work has also appeared in USA TODAY and Rewire.News. She currently serves on the board of the Seattle Association of Black Journalists.
