Shantikar: Raga & Kirtan

Join us for a very special concert of devotional music with Shantikar, featuring Indian violin virtuoso Indradeep Ghosh. Led by Richard Russell, lead singer, composer and sarode player, Shantikar offers a mesmerizing blend of ancient Indian rga and contemporary kirtan. Russell is a long-time disciple of world-renowned Indian master Ali Akbar Khan and is recognized as a leading figure in the east/west world music genre. His ensemble creates a wide range of moods from deeply meditative ambiance to joyful, upbeat celebration. Alice Zimmermann adds soaring vocals and harmonies and harmonium while Anil Prasad (tabla) and Dennis Staskowski (bass) provide a powerful and energizing rhythmic foundation. Award-winning violin master Indradeep Ghosh, on tour from India, adds an amazing level of depth and excitement with his joyful accompaniment and exhilarating solos. The program will begin with a presentation of Indian classical music and will be followed by an inspiring kirtan.
