Poetry Reading
Hear two Bay Area treasures read their poetry. Richard Silberg, Associate Editor of Poetry Flash, will introduce Marcia Falk, continuing the Facets of Spirituality poetry series. Join us at this FREE event. Refreshments will be served.
Marcia Falk will present her new book, Inner East: Illuminated Poems and Blessings, which pairs her poetic writing with her original paintings to create a meditative dialogue. The artwork will be displayed onscreen as she reads the accompanying poetic passages. Falk views her combinations of words and images as a re-visioning of the mizrachthe wall hanging that points eastward, the direction Jews traditionally face in prayer. The poems, paintings, and blessings in Marcia Falks collection point toward an inner easta focus for the prayer of the heart.
Marcia Falk is a poet, translator, painter, and Jewish scholar, widely known in the Jewish world for The Book of Blessings and The Days Between, her re-creations of prayer from a nonpatriarchal perspective. Her now-classic translation of The Song of Songs has been internationally acclaimed. She has also translated the work of modern Yiddish and Hebrew poets. She studied painting at the Art Students League of New York, where she is a Life Member.
Richard Silberg, poet, author, critic, translator, associate editor of Poetry Flash, and all-around mensch will emcee and read, as well.
This free event, brought to you by Temple Sinai's Fine Arts Committee on Culture and Community, is open to everyone.
