MANOS: THE RESTORATION at PhilaMOCA
Thursday, August 22, 2013 @ PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th Street MANOS: THE RESTORATION Philly Premiere!
The eagerly anticipated restoration of the cult classic MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE receives its Philly Premiere at PhilaMOCA courtesy of co-presenter Danger After Dark!
On Thursday, August 22nd at 8:00, we present a special, brand new digital restoration of the notorious 1966 cinematic train wreck MANOS THE HANDS OF FATE. Widely believed to be "The Worst Movie of All Time," MANOS is the tale of a family who gets lost in the desert and winds up at the estate of the sinister Master and his henchman Torgo, but is more notable for being a film whose ineptitude often reaches jaw-dropping, surreal proportions. Made by El Paso, Texas fertilizer salesman Harold Warren (who also stars), MANOS seems to violate every conceivable rule of film grammar. As famously described by Incredibly Strange Films, most bad movies look bad because they're made by people who had never made a movie before, but MANOS is bad because it looks like it was made by people who had never even seen a movie before.
But wait! This is not your ordinary MANOS! Untouched for decades, the original 16mm workprint of MANOS (different in some ways from the final version) was recently discovered in storage, and has now undergone frame-by-frame digital restoration to look better than this film probably ever has the right to look. Check out http://www.manosinhd.com/ for more information about the restoration, and join us on August 22nd for a one-night-only, one-of-a-kind viewing experience with the Philadelphia premiere of the digitally restored MANOS THE HANDS OF FATE. The Master would approve
Danger After Dark/Artsploitation Films' Travis Crawford will be in attendance to introduce the film.
Doors at 7:30, movie at 8:00, $10
