Join San Jose Symphonic Choir for a full performance of Handel's glorious Messiah on Saturday, November 23, 2019.
Handel was enormously successful in England with his oratorios: they weren't operas - no props or costumes - but they were operatic performance pieces that told a story, often with the chorus playing a central role. Handel's name drew such a crowd that audience members were advised to leave their hoop skirts and swords at home for fear of overcrowding the theatre. 278 years later it is still the best known and most popular of his oratorios, something that Handel probably never would have imagined.
SJSC will be accompanied by the San Jose Baroque Orchestra, performing on period instruments, including those wonderful Baroque trumpets.
The performance will take place at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Avenue in Saratoga at 7:30 pm.
