Why Can't We Stop Eating?? The Truth Behind Processed Food Addiction
This presentation offers a new explanation for the epidemic of overeating associated with a host of health problems including diabetes, cancer, heart disease, fatigue, depression, brain fog, memory loss, and ADD. In the 1980s, the tobacco industry took control of major processed food manufacturers. Dr. Joan Ifland will explain the addiction business model and how the tobacco industry has applied it to processed foods, and will share research suggesting that an epidemic of addiction to processed foods is driving overeating. Evidence for the brain alterations found in drug addiction are found in chronic consumers of processed foods. Speaker: Joan Ifland, PhD, MBA, FACN Dr. Ifland has been creating breakthroughs in recovery from food addiction since 1999, with her first popular book, to 2018 when her textbook, Processed Food Addiction: Foundations, Assessment, and Recovery was published by CRC Press. Dr. Ifland is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. She earned her PhD in addictive nutrition at Union Institute and University, her MBA at Stanford Graduate School of Business, and her BA in Economics and Political Science at Oberlin College.
She was selected by the Oprah Winfrey Network as the food addiction specialist on the Book of John Gray.
She is the founder of online services such as The Addiction Reset Community. She has also founded sites that provide free services including the Facebook group, Food Addiction Education. RESET WEEK, launched by Dr. Ifland in 2018, is the first online live video program for withdrawal from processed foods. Dr. Iflands Meal Prep Manual is a breakthrough system to easily manage meal preparation, which resolves a major barrier to recovery from food addiction.
Dr. Ifland is the lead author of the first scholarly publication describing refined food addiction and the definition of addictive foods.
