Ordinary Elephant / John Statz
NOTE: The concert begins at 7:30 pm, with doors open to general public at 7:00pm. Starting at 6:00 pm there will be a brief annual meeting of the Madison Folk Music Society. Those attending the annual meeting who are members of Mad Folk (or who join that night) will have first choice of seats AND complimentary pizza! Please RSVP for the pizza by choosing the corresponding ticket option when purchasing your tickets via Brown Paper Tickets. (Choose 6pm event start time to attend meeting and have pizza, or 7:30 event start time to just attend the concert.)
In 2018 Ordinary Elephant won the International Folk Music Awards 'Artist of the Year' at Folk Alliance International. They have captivated audiences with their emotionally powerful and vulnerable songs, letting the listener know that they are not alone in this world. The collaboration of husband and wife Pete (banjo, vocals) and Crystal Damore (guitar, vocals), their connection, and their influences (such as Gillian Welch, Guy Clark, Anais Mitchell) all meet on stage. "Two become one, in songhand-in-glove harmonies surprise the listener with focused intensity and musical mastery," says Mary Gauthier. The Associated Press is calling their latest album, Honest, "one of the best Americana albums of the year."
Also on the bill is Wisconsin-native and former Madison resident (now living in Colorado), John Statz. John has released eight studio albums and performed all over North America and Europe over the course of his thirteen-year career. The Boston Globe has called Johns music electric, urgent folk; aching, sweet country-rock while American Songwriter has said that he writes the kind of songs that float through your mind and stay nestled in your thoughts long after listening.
The show starts at 7:30 and doors open at 7:00. HOWEVER, if you want the best seat of the night and free pizza, and are a MadFolk member (or become one that night), come at 6:00 to the MadFolk Annual Meeting, where you will be able to save your seat for the concert. We will have a general election for officers on the Board for the next year, have a little news on the organization and...eat free pizza! (Please RSVP when purchasing tickets so we know how much to order.)
