Steinway Soiree
The refurbished 1927 A Steinway that lived for years in a storage closet, under paint buckets and tools at the Veterans Memorial Building, will be featured in an evening paired with two films celebrating Steinways, their builders and tuners. The evening begins with a short, silent film "How to Build a Steinway in 8 Minutes" accompanied by James C. Davis, one of Sonoma County's premier piano tuners performing original music on the Steinway. This historical film shows the process of producing hand-made Steinway pianos at their New York factory. It This is an unused marketing video produced by the Steinway Company in 1929 displaying how they manufacture their Style B Grand Piano. Most of the techniques have stayed the same in the 80 year interim. The feature, "Pianomania," is a full-length film following Stefan Knüpfer, a piano tuner from Steinway and his famous clients Lang Lang, Brendel, Buchbinder and Pierre-Laurent Aimard as they search for the perfect pitch. Truly an unusual and entertaining peak behind the curtain at the world's great concert halls. The Steinway Soiree is Friday, August 16, 7:30pm in the Robert Brent Auditorium, at the Center for the Arts at the Sebastopol Veterans Building, 282 S. High Street, Sebastopol, CA 95472. Tickets are $10, available at the door. For additional information call 707.829.4797.
