Learn about different types of grafting, how to choose and take scion wood, choosing a receptor site, how to make the graft and seal it properly.
In the Hands-On session, you'll put theory into practice. Each attendee will receive two apple and two pear rootstocks to bench graft and take home as well as working in small groups to do top-work on several trees in the orchard.
Several types of scion wood will be available, (including cider apples) or bring your own. Scion cutting instructions can be found at tinyurl.com/scionwood.
Saturday Hands-On only: Dress for weather & mud; bring a grafting knife & gloves for hands-on practice. Grafting knives will be available for purchase for $20 cash or check only.
