Songwriters Night with Joy Ike, Michael G. Ronstadt, Katie Dahl and Aaron Nathans
Aaron Nathans and Avi Wisnia host Songwriters Night, a monthly residency showcasing some of the best local and touring songwriters. Come experience a unique night of songs, storytelling and collaboration in this intimate listening room environment. November's concert event features Joy Ike, Michael G. Ronstadt, Katie Dahl and Aaron Nathans presented in the round.
About Joy Ike: Polished and precise, yet buoyed with an airy grace, Joy Ike paints with a broad palette that defies easy categorization. Born to Nigerian immigrants, the singer-songwriter's music, voice, and writing have drawn comparisons to female musicians such as Nina Simone, Laura Nyro, and Regina Spektor. But her percussive piano playing and soaring vocals give homage to her African upbringing. Leaving her career as a publicist in 2008, Joy has spent the last 11 years playing thousands of shows across the country. A write-up on NPR's All Things Considered says "The depth of subjects she tackles in her poetic lyrics are perfectly complemented by a unique blend of neo-soul, with just the right dash of pop... a truly compelling act to watch in person, with the ability to create an intimate setting in locations big and small." About Michael G. Ronstadt: An adept multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and composer, Michael G. Ronstadt has been captivating audiences throughout North America for nearly two decades. A master at his craft, Ronstadt traverses a mélange of musical styles that range from anywhere between folk, jazz, classical, Americana and the wildly ethereal. He lends his cello work to a broad range of projects, including his own solo work and a variety of ensembles. For more information visit www.michaelronstadt.com.
About Katie Dahl: Singer-songwriter Katie Dahl has performed her original songs everywhere from the dusty cliffs of Mali, to the winding canals of southern France, to the cedar forests of the American northwoods. Particularly well-respected on her home turf of Door County, Wisconsin, Katie tours regularly and has earned accolades nationwide for the depth and power of her alto voice, the literate candor of her songs, and the easy humor of her live performances. Karen Impola of Iowa Public Radio says, "Katie Dahl's music combines a love for her rural midwestern roots, a droll wit, and a clear-eyed appraisal of modern life, all served up in a voice as rich as cream." Katie's latest album, "Wildwood" (September 2019) was recorded in Nashville and features Birds of Chicago's JT Nero (producer) and Allison Russell (harmony vocals). About Aaron Nathans: Aaron Nathans' mission is to write songs about things that no one else has written about before. This leads into some strange and dimly-lit corners of life. This Philly-area-based songwriter's shows include humorous, meandering stories that will keep you every bit as captivated as the music itself - beautiful guitar work, catchy melodies, and his sweet baritone voice and incredible vocal range. He was named a New Folk finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival in both 2018 and 2011. For more information visit www.aaronnathans.com.
