Linda Szentes & Jazzlinks
Linda Szentes, vocalist, and her band pay a musical homage to Doris Day and Anita O'Day two incredibly popular and influential female singers. These women shared some similarities: they were contemporaries who started their careers singing with big bands in the 40's; however, when the scene changed dramatically after the war, their paths diverged. Doris Day, the girl next door with the golden voice, established herself as a singing/dancing/acting sensation in Hollywood for more than two decades; the "Jezebel of Jazz', Anita O'Day, shattered the image of the girl singer that Doris helped to create. Anita became one of the most hip and widely admired jazz singers in history.
The band features accomplished, improvising musicians who are all based in the lower mainland: Brenda Baird, piano, Michael Toth, guitar, Johan Worst, bass and Zoltan Kollar, drums.
Linda is an accomplished and versatile singer in many genres who has loved and listened to jazz throughout her life; she started studying in earnest with Bob Murphy, the great Canadian jazz pianist, in 2013. Linda is a musician and a singer: combined with her lyrical, flexible voice and consistent swing feel, she is a natural improviser.
