Monsanto Town Panel Discussions and Community Cook-out
Though its impacts are global, the story of Monsanto is a local story. Through archival research and community conversations in the Village of Sauget, Illinois (originally founded as the industrial suburb Monsanto in 1926), this project seeks to create the conditions for Sauget residents to tell the story their story of other side of corporate personhood, while also opening up a space to consider how the Anthropocene is embodied in everyday activities and landscapes within this community. An initial step towards building platforms for stories and histories from the Anthropocene vernacular to be shared across both sides of the Mississippi River, the Monsanto Town project will culminate in a day of public conversations and a cookout with Sauget residents and their counterparts across the American Bottom.
