Barbara Brussell is an award-winning cabaret artist, currently living in Pacific Grove, CA. She is bringing her tribute, Come What Mae: A Mother of a Show, to the Community Church of the Monterey Peninsula, October 6th @ 3:00 PM, and will be accompanied by pianist, Jon-Mark Hurley.
This is celebration of Mae Brussell, at a 30 year milestone of her passing. Loving mother of five, a prolific researcher of the JFK assassination, Watergate scandal and beyond, she was brave and ahead of her time!
"Mae Brussell was a powerhouse." New York's Peter Hass, for Cabaret Scenes Magazine writes. She was a, writer, lecturer, teacher, and, for 17 years, an investigative radio commentator who believed that the assassination of John F. Kennedy was a conspiracy. Mae was also the mother of cabaret star Barbara Brussell, who jests at the start of her show, Ive talked about doing this for nearly 30 years. Now I can clearly say, What was I thinking?'"
Barbaras varied program includes songs from Broadway musicals as well as from the 60s and 70s, including Rodgers and Hammerstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim, Dylan, Paul Simon, Carole King, and Jane Siberry.
"Barbara Brussell is an audiences delight," says Los Angeles critic for Cabaret Scenes Magazine, Elliot Zweibach,
"Her singing is enchanting and seductive, her song choices are stunningly on the mark, and her patter is so stream-of-consciousness that youd think she was making it up in the moment as she talked directly to you. Her voice has developed greater depth over the years, and she effectively draws listeners in with her sterling interpretations of familiar songs to which she gives new meanings."
"Brava to my soul sister Barbara Brussell on the launch of her best show ever, "Come What Mae: A Mother of a Show, which tore out many hearts, including mine, at Don't Tell Mama. (NYC, 2018) It's one of the deepest tales of mother-daughter love and conflict I've ever heard. Barbara's mom took her kids to Monterey Pop, introduced Barbara to John & Yoko, and devoted much of her life to searching for the truth of JFK's assassination. I can't wait to see this show again! I wish you lived next door! " - Author, James Gavin
"Yes, she tore my heart out with her depth of expression and artistry." - Eleanor Haas
"The best one woman show I've seen in a very very long time a master class of personal exploration, fluid patter, and song choices." - Singer-Actress, Annie Equality Hughes
