Equity in Practice: a How-to (2-Part Series) with Dr. Anu Taranath
Two part session: King Street Center 201 S Jackson, Suite 600 1.Oct 1 King/Chinook 9AM-Noon, 2.Oct 9 King/Chinook 9AM-Noon
Dr. Anu Taranath (www.anutaranath.com) will again be facilitating this two-part series designed to allow participants to practice techniques learned in a safe, non-judgmental environment, and bringing the concepts of Equity and Social Justice into everyday practice.
Through scenario role-play, attendees will be able to recognize and positively respond to interpersonal situations that deal with race, ethnicity, gender and/or cultural biases.
Participants will practice: Techniques on how to identify and address bias when its directed at us as an individual, as a group, when you witness these actions, or how you might behave as an ally; and Responding to situations in respectful, informative ways that also model civil engagement and consensus building.
There is no cost for this training; however, attendance for both dates and registration are required. Feedback from attendees: This is a lifetime learning ongoing, we need dedicated time to keep the conversation going. Makes me feel a little more comfortable with the uncomfortable. Shifting away from the shame/blame paradigm is useful. I love Anus style of making everyone feel included.
Dr. Taranath is also part of Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau on topics such as: "Tangled: Why Your Hair Matters to Society." Details at https://www.humanities.org/speaker/anu-taranath-2/
