Ikh Zing: The Yiddish Tradition
IKH ZING The Yiddish Tradition, a celebration of Yiddish culture from Europe and the Americas through song. The program will include old traditional songs, favorites from Poland and Ukraine such as "Oyfn Pripetchik" and "Kinder Yorn," humorous songs, ancient ballads, and passionate tangos by Benzion Witler, Abraham Ellstein, and Alexander Olshanetsky, as well as two English language selections heavily influenced by Yiddish culture: Ruby and Kalmar's "The Sheik of Avenue B," and Leonard Bernstein's "I Am Easily Assimilated."
Nicole Murad is a dulcet toned, classically trained singer, who studied with Hollywood great Marni Nixon. She traces her Sephardic lineage back to 1492 Toledo, Spain, and is widely acclaimed for her numerous performances of the Sephardic repertoire.
Pablo Zinger, born in Uruguay from Polish-Ukrainian Jewish immigrants, is an internationally acclaimed pianist and conductor who has partnered with Plácido Domingo.
