In this food preservation workshop, learn about the art of drying -- the oldest form of food preservation -- which safely retains the healthful live and raw qualities of summer vegetables for long-term storage. You'll prepare produce from Whittier's own Strub Avenue Farm to make an assortment of crunchy snacks, chewy desserts, and dried fruits and vegetables, and learn age-old techniques for making and storing sun-dried tomatoes to preserve the taste of summer all winter long.
A light vegetarian lunch is included to encourage socializing with fellow food-lovers. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of cooking experience and is beginner-friendly.
This workshop will include an overview of how to use several models of dehydrators (plus tips for acquiring one on a budget), instruction on preparing a variety of delectable nibbles, a recipe pack, and of course lots of sampling throughout the course of our time together.
