Guitarrísimo is back! This September we welcome the illustrious Uruguayan guitarist, Alvaro Pierri, who makes a rare UK appearance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in the elegant, intimate setting of the Peacock Room at King Charles Court.
Alvaro Pierri is internationally acclaimed as one of today's great guitar masters. Press reviews from around the world praise his 'phenomenal virtuosity', 'breathtaking phrasing' and the 'unmatched sound colour spectrum that he creates on the guitar'. Since his brilliant solo debut in New York and in Frankfurt with the Berlin Philharmonic String Soloists he has become a celebrated regular guest at major concert halls and on radio and TV across Europe, the Americas and Asia. Beyond his solo career he has also shared the stage with the likes of Astor Piazzolla, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Leo Brouwer, Amjad Ali Khan, the Cherubini and Ysaye Quartets, Yannick Nézet Séguin and Charles Dutoit, amongst many others, and his albums have garnered prestigious prizes and awards. Deutsche Grammophon has recently re-issued a DVD of Pierri performing in duo with Piazzolla, and he has just finished recording at Abbey Road Studios for a new CD series for AlphaOmega - HongKong. He was appointed Head Professor at the prestigious Vienna MDW (the legendary Academy of Music) in 2002, and in 2008 was named 'Honorary Citizen' of his hometown, Montevideo.
