Introduction to Sketchbook Journals in Watercolor

Sketchbook Journals are a safe place to practice your art and play. Learn techniques to get what you want on the page, overcome the blank page stare and which media and tools travel best. Basic drawing experience is helpful, but not required. We will practice these skills together. A desire to learn and discover is the only prerequisite.

The focus of this workshop will be travel journals using watercolor. Topics include the tips and tricks of drawing/painting outside, how to finish your page, lettering and looking back. Many other techniques will be covered that will keep your pages interesting.

Students need to supply: Sketchbook of your choosing. Heavy Mixed Media or Watercolor paper is best and spiral bound 5 X 8 is a good travel size.

Student Optional Supplies: If you have them, bring watercolor and palette, waterbrush (water in the handle), mechanical pencil, kneaded eraser, waterproof pen (i.e. micron)

Painting supplies (except sketchbook) will be available to borrow for the class. If you choose to purchase the kit, $20 will be collected by the instructor.

This class is appropriate for ages 15+
