Sustainability in Student Housing and Hospitality
Attendees will learn about leading-edge technology and system design strategies for student housing and hospitality projects to achieve high-performing buildings. The presentation will discuss sustainability strategies through an architects perspective and how incorporating such strategies will impact the design and construction process.
Learning Objectives: Be able to demonstrate ways to reduce energy use in student housing and hospitality buildings through energy efficiency measures.
Be able to demonstrate ways to reduce water use in student housing and hospitality buildings through energy efficiency measures.
Develop an understanding of the design process for highly sustainable student housing and hospitality facilities.

Kevin M. Smith, PE
As a Mechanical Engineer and Energy Analyst, Kevin Smith applies his passion for sustainability to holistic energy modeling in order to guide design and optimize building performance. Kevin's services span all market sectors, having worked on sustainability projects in hospitality, higher education, healthcare, commercial and multi-family residential. In addition to working with Glumac, his background includes providing energy engineering services with a design-build mechanical contractor and with this diverse experience, Kevin is an asset to every project team.
Shane Gerkin, PE
Working towards producing buildings that enhance the occupants overall wellbeing is at the heart of what Shane does. As a Project Manager and Mechanical Engineer, he has designed and managed a range of commercial and government projects. He has experience on high performance buildings that achieved Net Zero, LEED Platinum, and WELL Platinum certification. His experience includes luxury hotels, retail spaces, museums, nature centers, courthouses, and large office and high-rise residential projects. Shane has previous experience in manufacturing and solar cell research.
