There was a time when on just about any Sunday night you could find Session Americana at Toad. They were playing just about any song that came into their heads and inviting whomever might stroll in through the front door to sit down and have a spin at the table with them. One night it was Rose Polenzani... From that first moment it clicked. They weren't just her backing band and she wasn't just sittin' in. And in the spontaneity (and joy!) of those Sunday nights was born this CD.
To capture that feel Rose and the band turned to Hi n' Dry (now defunct, but) a truly unique loft/ recording studio established by Morphine founder Mark Sandman. With the help of Bill Conway and Matt Malikowski, that rich red room lofty with history, beautiful (and gone) and about 20 microphones they were able to recreate that live sunday night feel, because it was live...
They went in intent on recording two albums at once; both the Rose material for When the River Meets the Sea and the Session Americana album Beertown. (over one long weekend). And that's exactly what they did. The approach on all the songs was interchangeable. They just took turns. With Jordan Caress and Dan Kellar added for good measure.
So for these two nights Rose and Session Americana will try and recreate those sessions live and who knows what will happen.. but you'll never know if you never go.
