Brian Gore & Bill Russell: A Pairing of Music with Art

Join guitarist Brian Gore and renowned illustrator Bill Russell for an evening of music and art that brings the beauty of the Los Gatos Mountains, Santa Cruz and the California Wine Country to life; blending music with still life landscapes, animation, and digital drawing using Doceri for the iPad. Known as a "poet of the guitar," Brian's compositions have story lines that take the listener on spellbinding rides through stories, places and moods. Versatile illustrator Bill Russell turns this music into a feast for the eyes, bringing his visual reportage and myriad styles into an evocative visual presentation of place.

Two years ago, Brian moved with his family to the Los Gatos Mountains. Inspired by afternoon walks with his son, he produced an album of suite of songs inspired by the area. He teamed up with renowned illustrator Bill Russell, who brought the story of these settings to life in animations and impressionistic paintings, that include the surfers at Lighthouse Point, the monarch butterflies resting area at Natural Bridges, the covered bridge in Felton and the waterfalls of Castle Rock State Park, and the birds found around the Lexington Reservoir.

They've since expanded their work to include songs, paintings and animations about the California wine country. Bill's artwork is projected in tandem with Brian's music, to portray landmarks like the historic Bale Grist Mill in St. Helena; the migratory Miwoks and Spanish mission history; the adventures of Robert Louis Stevenson and his wife Fanny on their Napa honeymoon; Jack London's 'Wolf House' in Glen Ellen, and much more. Instrumentals like 'The Last Mission' - used in an animation about Sonoma -reference wax cylinder recordings of music from Spanish California.

The show includes a one-of-a-kind live digital drawing segment, set to music, using the Doceri iPad app, which is also used to produce the visuals for this multi-media show.
