John Patitucci & Friends Jazz Benefit Concert
GRAMMY AWARD WINNING BASSIST JOHN PATITUCCI PERFORMS 3rd ANNUAL JAZZ BENEFIT CONCERT IN HASTINGS ON HUDSON
On Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 4:00 pm, three-time Grammy award winning bassist, John Patitucci, will lead his band in a Benefit Concert to raise proceeds for the charities Hastings Helps the Hungry and The Sharing Community, based in Yonkers, New York. The concert will be held at The First Reformed Church, 18 Farragut Avenue in Hastings on Hudson, New York. The concert is being jointly presented by Trinity Rivertowns Church and The First Reformed Church. A silent auction will also be held to benefit The Sharing Community. John will lead a stellar lineup of musicians for this concert: pianist Jon Cowherd, guitarist Jay Azzolina, drummer Nate Smith, and vocalist Ruth Naomi Floyd. Mr. Patitucci has been a member of the Wayne Shorter Quartet for over thirteen years. The Wayne Shorter Quartet has performed extensively throughout the world and is widely acclaimed as "the finest quartet in all of jazz" (Contra Costa Times 10/1/2008). John Patitucci was also a long time member of the Chick Corea Akoustic and Elektric Bands, and has performed and recorded with other jazz legends such as Freddie Hubbard, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Hank Jones, Michael Brecker, Stan Getz, Pat Metheny and many more. Mr. Patitucci has released thirteen solo records as a bandleader and, in addition to winning three Grammy awards, has been nominated for Grammys over fifteen times. John has been a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Rye, New York for sixteen years and is a member of the core group that is starting a new congregation, Trinity Rivertowns Church, in Hastings on Hudson. Pastor Jim Kirk, along with his wife and three children, relocated to Hastings earlier this year to lead Trinity Rivertowns Church. Trinity Rivertowns launches a weekly worship service on Sunday, September 22, 4 p.m. at The First Reformed Church, 18 Farragut Avenue. Trinity Presbyterian is the daughter church of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC, which is led by Pastor and book author Timothy Keller. The First Reformed Church of Hastings has been serving the community for over 160 years and has been led by Pastor Okke Postma since 1985. It is the oldest church building in Hastings and hosts a wide variety of community organizations and churches. First Reformed services are held every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Hastings Helps the Hungry has been helping to provide meals to the hungry for over 20 years. On the third Tuesday of each month, volunteers meet at First Reformed to chop vegetables for salad, and they also donate money to buy chickens and potatoes for The Sharing Community of Yonkers. Each month, a different class from the local elementary school provides brownies for the meal and the local A&P has an ongoing collection site for donated bottles of apple juice. The Sharing Community operates the largest soup kitchen in Westchester County and served nearly 57,000 meals in the past year. They feed an average of more than 150 people each day and have operated food, shelter, housing and AIDS prevention and education programs since 1983. The Sharing Community is a 501(c)(3) charity. Tickets for the Benefit Concert can be purchased in advance for $15 at brownpapertickets.com or at the door for $20. Children are admitted free. Seating is limited. If you would like to interview John Patitucci or any other person affiliated with the concert, please contact Sachi Patitucci at (914) 424-4637 or at sachi@trinityrivertowns.com.
