Highland Park Historical Society's House Tour of 5 Homes
Highland Park ---- Highland Park Historical Society is hosting a Tour of Houses distinguished by their uniqueness, character and architecture. You tour five homes including four landmarks:
- 1906 Frank Lloyd Wright whose restoration is in progress; - 1893 Log construction by William W. Boyington, a local resident who designed Chicagos Water Tower; - 1895 Queen Anne with original elaborate woodwork; - 1897 American Foursquare with an architecturally compatible addition; - 1920s Colonial on a magnificent 3/4 acre garden.
We are thrilled these local residents generously open their homes for viewing and demonstrate their support for local history. Your participation will enlighten you on the charm of our community, and your donation will support our mission to preserve Highland Parks history. Mark your calendar for Sunday, September 21st, for a delightful day touring these lovely homes, commencing from the Highland Park Historical Society at 326 Central Avenue in Highland Park, Illinois. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 on the day of event.
In advance of the House Tour, we will present a program on Architect William W. Boyington, who designed Chicago s Water Tower, Peoria Prison, the entrance to Rosehill Cemetery, and the Illinois State Capitol building in Springfield. Boyington was a Highland Park resident who designed the 1893 log construction home on our House Tour. Julia Johnas, author of Highland Park: Settlement to the 1920s, will present his life and accomplishments on Tuesday, September 16th, at 7 PM at the Highland Park Public Library, at Laurel and St. Johns Avenues, offered free to the public.
The Highland Park Historical Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making local history a vital force in the community by promoting pride in our heritage through the collection, preservation and display of historical artifacts; serving as a research and resource center and by presenting programs of educational value.
