Orchestra 101 -- Sandy Eastman
This discussion course will prepare you to listen intelligently when you attend the 2013-2014 San Luis Obispo Symphony season. You will learn how the symphony orchestra is organized, how conductor and other orchestra members lead the orchestra, interpret music, learn specific scores, and apply music theory. You'll also learn the meaning of the mysterious Italian and German phrases, and anything else that is confusing about classical music.
Sandy Eastman holds a Master of Music degree from Indiana University. He has been a member of the Long Beach Coterie Sinfonique, Pasadena Community Orchestra, Topanga Symphony, and San Luis Chamber Orchestra as a bassoonist. He taught for 30 years in the Los Angeles area and, after retirement, part time at Cuesta and Hancock Colleges.
