Pismo Beach Geology Revealed--Lyle Yager
Enjoy a great outdoor course on the Central Coast of California where you'll learn a lot about its rich and varied geological history. We'll start with a brief overview of that history,and then get a hands-on and up-close look at some geological highlights that are exposed at the beach in Pismo Beach.
The site offers such features as faults, dikes, volcanic ash, sea stacks, and evidence of rock eating clams. Together we will unravel the stories they have to tell. This course will get you to look at our wonderful coast in a completely different way.
Access to the beach site requires going up and down about 160 steps. Participants should wear appropriate shoes and dress for beach conditions. Walking on the sandy beach may be difficult for some.
Participants meet at the end of Wilmar Avenue, Pismo Beach. This is a very short street that has stairway access to the beach.
You will need to sign a LLCC waiver before the start of this course.
Dress in layers, as the weather can change frequently.
Lyle Yager has developed a special interest in the geology of the Central Coast, and has studied the Pismo Beach site many times as a member of geology courses he has taken. He is a docent for the Pecho Coast Trail and the San Luis Lighthouse. He has taught courses about the Lighthouse, Reservoir Canyon and the Coon Creek.
