Come and explore the wonder of symphonic music in a program designed for "kids" from 3 to 103! Kids will also have an opportunity to Meet the Instruments up close after the performance with some "hands on" opportunities in the percussion family AND a conducting lesson with our Maestro.
This program is a sort of tasting event of a variety of works to engage people of all ages.
The concert begins with Rossini's clever and fun Overture to "The Italian Women in Algiers" followed by a suite of pieces from Tchaikovsky's beloved Nutcracker ballet.
Next up, 13-year old Christina Hahn, winner of the Snohomish County Music Teacher's Competition! A student of Alan Park, she will perform the exciting and uplifting 3rd movement of Beethovens 5th Piano Concerto. A prize winner of over 30 competitions to date, Christina is an 8th grader at Northshore Middle School and currently studies with Mr. Allan Park. She also enjoys playing the cello and loves math and science.
The well known and exciting 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky will have your attention all the way with sounds of cannon fire, ringing chimes, and a brass fanfare finale. This piece is often played outdoors to accompany fireworks displays.
Following, you will have the opportunity to play sleigh bells with the orchestra in Leroy Anderson's beloved "Sleigh Ride", and then a chance to "Meet the Instruments" up close and even have a conducting lesson by Maestro Cobbs...your "baton" will be a candy cane!!
