Fascinated with the pure magic of making stereophonic recordings, Don Farwell has been recording music and sounds for 27 years! Throughout the scope of his career, Don has grappled with two main questions in audio production:
How does a sound make you feel?
Why does it make you feel this way?
Farwell believes that whether you are recording yourself, friends or clients, the same basic concepts apply when it comes to making great recordings. During his talk, he will break down the following:
Performance -Who is playing and why are they there? What is the vision? -What is this person capable of in this moment? -What can be done to help the artist get in the zone -How does the physical space relate to the recording?
Instrumentation, gear and recording technique -What instruments and equipment are being used by the artist? -What things can be done before the session even starts? -What thoughtful ways can recording gear and technique be selected to help the process?
Post-production & mixdown - Farwell believes this is the most creative area for the recording engineer and will speak briefly on some of his techniques and basic philosophies when it comes to mixing.
The first hour will cover the topics above, then plenty of time will be spent during Q&A to dig deeper into specifics that people want to explore.
