Comedy at the Ave - May '14
Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to Comedy Night at The Ave, of course. Once a month the Auburn Ave Theater presents three comedians in one night to keep you laughing all night long. So don't head to Seattle or Tacoma when can head right down to the Ave for great regional comedy.
Headliner Rebecca Corry, a Last Comic Standing finalist and animal rights advocate, headlines the May 16 Comedy at the Ave show at 7:30 p.m. at the Auburn Avenue Theater. Corry says she understood funny, "... when I came out of my mother's womb thinking, 'What is this? Some kind of joke?'" Born and raised in Kent, Corry lived and comedically trained in Chicago for nine years, writing, acting and performing at The Second City, Annoyance and Center Theater. After an 11-month run in the Chicago production of "Tony and Tina's Wedding" as the pregnant maid of honor, Corry moved to Los Angeles. Immediately following her arrival, she appeared at the HBO workspace in her first one-woman show, "Have You Ever Been Called a Dwarf?", hosted a pilot for the Oxygen Network and was chosen to perform as a "New Face" at the Montreal Comedy Festival. Shortly after, she was seen in the feature film, "Big Fat Liar", and CBS's "Yes, Dear". Corry went on to guest star on "The King of Queens", "The Bernie Mac Show", "The Wayne Brady Show", and "Comics Unleashed". Her second one-woman-show, "Rebecca Corry with Balls", was the LA Weekly's "Comedy Pick of the Week. Corry's true passions are comedy and animal rescue and she travels the country with her pitbull, Angel.
