Punk The Capital: Building A Sound Movement
This special one-night screening of Punk the Capital celebrates the 5th anniversary of the founding of the DC Public Library's DC Punk Archive. The event also observes the collaboration between the makers of the documentary and the archive, which has extended from the archive's beginnings until today.

Punk the Capital dives back into the late-70's when punk rock exploded in Washington D.C.  It was a mighty convergence of powerful music, friendships, and clear minds. Punk the Capital takes us through the transformative years from 1976 to 1983, situating D.C. punk within the larger narratives of punk and rock n' roll. It takes us to the heart of why both the sounds and ideas from this unique music scene continue to influence and inspire around the world. Focusing on bands such as Bad Brains, Minor Threat, and The Slickee Boys, the film creates a portrait of a movement that not only defined a genre but that created a model for social and political engagement.

Filmmakers Paul Bishow, Sam Lavine and James June Schneider and special guests will be present for Q and A.
