7th annual GrowFest! 2019
Redland Fruit & Spice Park Satuday & Sunday, OCT 19-20, from 9:30am - 4:30pm come one or both days
GrowFest! is about connecting the dots between the farm or garden and the dinner table. We give you the knowledge and materials to grow, forage, buy, prepare, and eat good, local, seasonal food. Empowering you with the tools to grow your own food lets you gain a better appreciation of what it takes for our farmers to produce the food we all eat, and whets your appetite for the best, healthiest, and freshest produce.
Start your gardens! Get your seedlings, fruit trees, seeds and companion plants, and growing supplies.
You SNAP? We MATCH!! SNAP/EBT dollars can be used for buying veggie seeds, seedlings, and fruit trees, as well as fresh produce. And those dollars stretch twice as far with Fresh Access Bucks double-value incentives limit $40 each day).
Ancient Plant Connections -food, shelter, medicine, clothing is this year's festival theme, spotlighting Hemp, its history, and many uses. Research efforts in other crops, such as squashes and vanilla orchids, will be presented by local University experts.
Empower Farms, this year's beneficiary, was selected for their work providing learning, training, and working opportunities in agriculture for adults with disabilities, using eco-friendly techniques, and distributing the produce locally.
The Chefs' Local Cookoff Challenge on Sunday, and the similar Amateur Local Cookoff Challenge on Saturday, asks renowned local chefs, students, aspiring chefs and home cooks to get creative with a Mystery Box full of Redland-Raised seasonal crops. Awesome and healthy deliciousness results from their inspired dishes!
Lectures and demos throughout the weekend by UF/IFAS/Miami-Dade County Extension agents, Master Gardeners, UF/TREC research scientists, and other local experts inform growers at all levels - from balcony to backyard growers, urban, small and large farmers.
Enjoy fresh, real food! No junky fair food here. Our food vendors showcase locally-grown Fresh from Florida and Redland Raised ingredients. Local cottage food and artisanal producers share their stories and sell their goods.
Explore the park! Redland Fruit & Spice Park is the only tropical botanical garden and public park of its kind in the U.S., hosting over 500 varieties of tropical fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, nuts and edible plants. Visit and learn about the amazing variety of edible plants you can grow in South Florida.
Enjoy Music both days, with Grant Livingston, Bob Bonnen, The Stone Age Music Society, and David Feder.
Multiple Door Prize drawings each day. Paid admissions include a raffle ticket for a chance at great door prizes!
