TRACY VERNON
-----------------------------------------
"If Jonisha braids my hair, will you come back to drama class?

Eighth grade Monica propels herself to stardom with her autobiographical monologue based on her breakup with her boyfriend. When he declares he can't see her anymore because his parents don't approve, her character walks off  stage to commit suicide. But why such a dramatic ending? Could it be that facing a trifecta of rejection from him, his parents and ultimately her own parents, who placed  her in the foster care system, have something to do with her desire to turn up the dramatic heat?  But once the show is over, will her new found rock star status help keep her from getting  sucked back to working the streets of Fruitvale?

SCOTT COHEN
------------------------------------
"If its 7:30 in the living room, what time is it in the kitchen?"

Eight year old Scott pretended to be asleep as he stretched across the backseat of his grandfather's 1969 Oldsmobile.  For the last hundred miles, he had been eavesdropping as his grandparents talked about Carol.
"Do you think she'll even remember us?" his grandmother asked, "After all, we only met her the one time, and she doesn't know we're coming to see her."
"Yeah," his grandfather said, "but, we're memorable people.  She'll remember."
Then he turned off the engine, flicked his cigarette out the window, and reached into the backseat to touch his grandson.
"Wake up, Scotty; its 2AM.  We're here."

JANET THORNBURG
--------------------------------
"Tales of Great Ulysses"

Lanny warned me before the party that his cousin Susan "wasn't comfortable with gayness," but I assumed she'd keep it under wraps in tolerant San Francisco. Not so! The saucy blonde let fly a nasty barb the moment Lanny introduced us. My response startled Susan, flabbergasted Lanny, and gave me a brand-new option for setting limits.

KELLY J. KELLY
--------------------------------
"Stepford Wife Wannabe"

From the age of five, all Kelly wanted to do was become an airline stewardess. One day, she and her twin lined up all of their stuffed animals on the stairway at home and pretended the toys were the passengers in a DC-8 fan jet. There were even some celebrities on board: Strawberry Shortcake and Winnie the Poo. They flew that stairway all over the nation. Why wouldnt Kelly become a stewardess?
