OzCon 2020
Join us for three full days of Ozzy fun at the 56th Annual OzCon International, as we once again return to Southern California for our third year at the beautiful Kellogg West Conference Center on the Cal-Poly campus in Pomona, near three major airports: Ontario, John Wayne, and LAX. Seated atop a beautiful hill, this site, with its rolling wooded hills and farm-scapes, feels almost like Oz itself!
2020 marks yet another 100 year Oz milestone as of course well be celebrating the centennial of L Frank Baums last ever Oz book - Glinda of Oz. Back in 1920, as Glinda of Oz is hitting the bookshelves most Oz fans know that Ruth Plumly Thompson, is briskly, galloping and harrumphing along writing her first Oz book, paving the way for more Oz authors to come. To pay tribute to this well be honouring all of the Royal Historians that followed L. Frank BaumRuth Plumly Thompson, John R. Neill, Jack Snow, Rachel Cosgrove Payes, Eloise Jarvis McGraw, Lauren Lynn McGraw and beyond. Well shine our movie spotlight toward Walt Disneys Return to Oz, as it hits 35 years. Your ears will also be Ozzified as we explore the many years of Oz related mu- sic from 1902 Wizard of Oz extravaganza all the way through to up the most current Oz tunes, to date.
Our special guests so far include The Ravenswood Radio Players a dedicated group of actors who use some technical wizardry to bring radio plays to life. There production will take you on a journey to Oz unlike any other you have seen before. Kiki Ebsen returns daughter of Buddy Ebsen and performs live for all at OzCon. And more guests to be annouced soon.
OzCon will begin mid-morning on Friday July 17th and run thru Sunday afternoon July 19th. We will again feature multi-track programming during the day and large group events in the evening. And of course we will have our Ozzy cosplay masquerade, our wonderful Dealers Room, the Oz Clubs auction of rare Baum and Oz material, the challenging quizzes, the treasure hunt, and relaxing after-parties!
This year we continue offering a variety of meals. All people staying on-site at the hotel may enjoy the full breakfast buffet (free of charge). Lunches and dinners may be purchased with a complete The Works package or a la carte. Please note that these meals must be purchased in advance of arrival! There are no stand-alone restaurants on the grounds (rather like our old con site Asilomar), though nearby restaurants are within several minutes driving range. OzCon plans to have a cool water station available all weekend. Guests and programming are subject to change. No refunds can be issued.
