Trinity Alps Chamber Players Ian Scarfe, piano and reed organ Mélanie Clapiès, violin Charith Premawardhana, viola Charles Akert, cello
Program: Antonin Dvorak - Bagatelles, Op. 47 Danny Clay - Ocean Park Johannes Brahms - Quartet in C Minor, Op. 60
Pianist Ian Scarfe brings a trio of strings to this program of the Trinity Alps Chamber Players, in a program featuring one of Brahms' great masterpieces of chamber music, the C Minor Piano Quartet, with it's famously awesome piano part. Balancing this heavy meal, the ensemble will also perform two works with Scarfe's suitcase-sized reed organ, Dvorak's five "Bagatelles, Op. 47", and Danny Clay's meditative new work "Ocean Park", commissioned in 2016 by the Trinity Alps Festival.
Scarfe will be joined by French violinist Mélanie Clapiès, a relative newcomer to the Bay Area with an impressive list of east-coast and European successes. Now a full time performer, in France she was on the faculties of the Conservatories in Toulon and Bordeaux as well as the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris.
Violist Charith Premawardhana has long been a familiar presence to Bay Area music lovers. The founder of the world-wide phenomenon "Classical Revolution", he has performed with virtually everyone as a classical, jazz, and rock musicians.
Cellist Charles Akert is one of the original members of the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, and has been performed at Outside Lands, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, on NPR's "Tiny Desk" Concerts, and toured the country with the indie-rock band "The Family Crest".
