Focus on Farming - Focus on Forestry
Focus on Farming is the only one-day gathering for all types of farming in one location; whether organic or conventional, livestock or row crops, large or small. Providing quality education to sustain current farmers and attract new farmers to our region is a critical component in securing the next generation's local food supply. This year enjoy new tracks that include Flower Farming, Agritourism and Industrial Hemp Production!
2019 Keynote speaker Michael Rosmann Ph.D.a farmer and psychologist in Harlan, Iowa. His professional work has contributed to the understanding of why people farm, their unique behavioral health issues, and why suicide is unusually common among farmers.
Michael Rosmann, Ph.D., is a psychologist and farmer whose life's work involves improving the behavioral healthcare of the agricultural population. He seeks to advance regional and global food production policy which enhances the behavioral and economic welfare of food producers, maintains stewardship of the land and other resources used in food production and protects the safety of food for consumers. In an era of increasing tension due to bioterrorist threats and shifts in the agribusiness climate, he is a voice for the agricultural population. The New York Times said this about him: A fourth generation farmer as well as a clinical psychologist, he speaks the language of men and women on the verge of losing their place on the land.
Morning keynote address, Erin Pirro is a Certified Agricultural Consultant and Ag Business Catalyst. Her keynote "Building the Team You Want for the Future you Deserve" addresses labor as one of our biggest expenses, but it's also one of our greatest opportunities. Building a professionally-run business pays huge dividends - not only to the bottom line, but in creating a company culture where people want to work. A good team is an asset to any company, and building the one you want opens doors to everything: a day off, a vacation, even a legacy that outlives you. Erin will provide some simple strategies you can employ to make a meaningful difference with your company's biggest asset - and along the way, become the employer of choice.
This year we will once again host "Focus on Forestry" which is for both large and small forest landowners from all over Washington State. The day will follow the same template as Focus on Farming with sessions on various topics including Herbs in your Forests and Clearings, Forest Practices and Applying for a Forest Practices Permit, Agroforestry Opportunities and Protecting Forest Lands: Timber Theft, Timber Contracts & Trespass.
Please join us for Focus on Farming and Focus on Forestry.
