La Caravana de los Misterios
Writer, Director, and Performer: Susana Plotts-Pineda Assistant Director: Mateo Correa Featuring Mateo Correa
This show draws from Mexican folk art and the poetic landscape of Latin American magic realism. Within the frame of a life-sized shadow box, the piece uses the Mexican sensibility of the miniature to reconstruct a history of American intervention during the war on drugs, and trace its impact on the current situation at the border.
Transcripts of official documents are interwoven with an array of monologues as we visit three instances of extreme violence in Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico, and attempt to find the links between them. A beauty queen, a bride, and an art auctioneer emerge to tell stories of place and displacement, guiding us through the lush continent, its painful histories, and its verdant resilience.

Visit the theater any evening during this three-week event, and you'll find yourself transported in a number of surprising ways: by a single performer embodying a whole host of characters; by a more experimental theater piece "done differently" that challenges and delights; by a cozy two-person show exploring relationships; or perhaps by a bouncy new musical that will have you humming. Emerging Artists has always been about new works, new talents, new voices. That's never been more evident than now.
NO REFUNDS will be granted.
