SCA events are welcoming and inclusive to all. Please let us know if you have any accessibility requirements, allergies or sensitivities to plan for in our event.
Code of Conduct: http://seattlecomposers.org/sca-code-of-conduct/ The SCA welcomes composer and producer, Amy Denio, to share her insights on how to survive and grow as an independent musician. Topics include founding a publishing company and record label and the mechanics of music distribution. She will also describe her experiences with networking, grant writing, collaborating as a way to develop ones expression, producing records, and tips for survival as a self-employed musician. And in perfect mercurial fashion, she will probably throw in a few stories and advice she's gleaned from her varied and (often unorthodox) international tours.
---------------------------------------------------------- Known as Seattles avant goddess, Denio decided never to specialize, rather she focused on broadening her knowledge about the industry of creating music. This included teaching herself to play a variety of instruments, developing skills as an audio engineer and record producer, and founding her own publishing company and record label. She has played concerts and taught musical workshops solo and in collaboration with international artists in festivals, clubs, squats, prisons, churches, sanctuaries, subways, and inside abandoned buildings on 6 continents. She is a musicians musician. Denio is also an award-winning chamber composer, publishing nearly 500 pieces ranging from pop songs to soundtrack music for dance, TV, film and theater - as a solo artist, for sax quartet, Austrian chamber octet, and the Berkeley Symphony. She has created LLCs for her music projects and written dozens of successful grants for all kinds of creative projects. Denios newest chamber work, Truth Is Up For Grabs, will be presented at the Chapel Performance Space in Seattle on October 11 & 12, 2019. Composed for her 21-piece orchestra, it is sponsored by the Seattle Composers Alliance and is funded in part by 4 Culture and the Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs.
