Writer's Gym
LitSpace Literary Arts Institute at Morean Arts Center
Saint Petersburg, FL
Share this event:

Time to workout those writing muscles by sharing your terrible-awful-no-good-first-drafts with our passionate community of supportive and friendly writers. Together we'll celebrate the magic in your writing and, just like personal trainers, we'll give each other the tips, tricks and gentle pushes which build strong writing muscles. Writers of all genres from poetry to fiction to non-fiction are welcome. FYI: Most students are writing fiction and memoir at this time.

Bring copies of as little as one paragraph up to three pages, double spaced in 12 point font. The number of copies varies. We typically have 10 to 12 people. We can share copies if necessary. You DO NOT have to bring your writing. You can learn a ton hearing feedback others receive. Also, if you can't make copies you can still come read, but be aware feedback is harder to give. However, it still great to get out and share your work. In fact, you can even request to share and not receive any feedback. We will meet you where you are at. (Check out Poet's Gym on the 1st Saturday of every month for our poetry writers.)

About the Instructor:
Maureen McDole was born in St. Petersburg, Florida. She is a direct descendant of carnies, carpenters and fishermen. This do-it-yourself ethos in her DNA infuses every area of her life. As far back as she can remember she loved to write. Her first book of poems, Exploring My Options, came out in 2006.  Her second poetry book, Longing for the Deep End, was released in December 2011. Maureen is working on her third collection of poems. She has a BA in English Literature from USF-St. Petersburg and a certificate in Arts & Culture Strategy from University of Pennsylvania.  Her poetry has been set in a variety of different ways including: film, dance, spoken word, art installations, Sprechstimme, and traditional vocal works. She is an Associate Editor of Creative Pinellas Magazine. She is the recipient of St. Petersburg Art Alliances 2016 MUSE Award for Literary Arts. She is also the President of The Friends of the Mirror Lake Library. Maureen has been leading workshops and speaking about creativity for over 15 years. She founded Keep St. Pete Lit because she believes wholeheartedly in the power of literature to change the world.
