Milwaukee Opera Theatre continues its support of area creators by kicking off our 2013-14 season with a concert reading of an outstanding new musical by Susan Peterson Holmes, Peggy Peterson Ryan, and Alissa Rhode.
VICTORY FOR VICTORIA takes as its source the life events of Victoria Claflin Woodhull (1838-1927), a remarkable woman who, once a leading suffragist and one of the most famous women in post-Civil War America, is now effectively erased from history books. Her crowning achievement was to be the first woman ever to run for the Presidency of the United States.
With the composer herself at the keyboard, ten of Milwaukee's favorite singer-actors will gather to tell this story for the first time. Come, be part of history!
Featuring:
Kerry Hart Bieneman as Victoria Claflin Woodhull Katy Johnson as Tennessee "Tennie" Claflin Joel Kopischke as Reuben Buckman "Buck" Claflin Nathan Wesselowski as Dr Canning "Doc" Woodhull Alison Mary Forbes as Josie Mansfield and Susan B. Anthony Adam Estes as Col. James Harvey Blood Nathan Krueger as "Commodore" Cornelius Vanderbilt and Rev. Henry Ward Beecher Kay Stiefel as Isabella Beecher Hooker Drew Brhel as Anthony Comstock Bob Balderson as Our Narrator
With Music Direction by Alissa Rhode and Stage Direction by Jill Anna Ponasik
Each performance will be followed by a talk back with creators and cast.
