She is also a member of the CBASO percussion section, and has most recently been working to develop her skills as a xylophonist.
Susan is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she majored in piano performance as a student of Arthur Dann. She also holds a Master of Liberal Arts in the Humanities from the University of Chicago. She has taught piano, primarily to adults, and served both as a soloist and an accompanist to numerous single and ensemble performers.
Like most other CBASO members, when not practicing music, Susan practices law. She is a founder and managing partner of Edwards Maxson Mago & Macaulay, LLP, a/k/a EM3 Law, where she focuses on mergers and acquisitions and other complex corporate and financing transactions. She has been designated by SuperLawyers as a "Top Rated Mergers & Acquisitions Attorney," and included in the Best Lawyers Business Edition Spring 2019 Women in the Law.
Susan has held a number of positions both with law firms, including Gardner Carton & Douglas (now Drinker Biddle & Reath), where she was head of the Banking & Financial Institutions Group and chair of the opinion committee, and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, where she practiced in the banking group, as well as in-house positions such as Vice President & Corporate Counsel at Caremark International, Inc., General Counsel of ArcVentures, Inc., and Associate General Counsel of Heller Financial, Inc.
Susan received her J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago, where she was Executive Editor of the Loyola Law Journal (law review), an American Jurisprudence Award recipient in constitutional law, and a member of Alpha Sigma Nu (a national Jesuit honor society). She also hold an LL.M. in Financial Services Law (with high honors) from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she taught for many years as a member of the adjunct faculty.
