Monica Passin: TWISTIN' TO THE FALLOUT SHELTER
Monica Passin sings and tells tales of her life, and the world at large, in 1962. She was five. Blessedly unaware of the threat of nuclear annihilation, Monica saw a world of people dancing and having fun, responding with the biggest dance craze of all, the Twist! Her father had danced on television, and her parents met mamboing. When she reached for the toes of Chubby Checker, on stage in a sharkskin suit in the Catskills, the die was cast for a life of music and dance and a culture swap that maybe, just maybe, could save the world.
Monica Passin is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music teacher, and show producer in New York City. She has released five albums. She has a residency at The Treehouse at 2A on the last Sunday of every month, performing her own music as well as creating themed musical shows, featuring as many as 35 of her closest musical friends, in a series called The Great Harmony Swap. She has toured Sweden! She played The Girl in The Fantastiks in summer camp! She is grateful to Pangea for inviting her to debut her new work, Twistin' to the Fallout Shelter.
"[with] her bell-tone voice hypnotizing everyone on the cosmic dance floor, were let in on Monica's brilliant grasp of the whole formidable compendium of American music, and its total fun, to boot." David Silver, writer of The Compleat Beatles
"Echoes of the Brill Building, street corners, and cabarets all come together in a wonderful take on the rich and varied musical history of Ms Passin's New York." Bill Kirchen, Titan of the Telecaster
"Monica Passin has a voice that is beautiful, funny, mournful, and sexy, sometimes in an understated Wanda Jackson vein, otherwise like the lead singer in something like the Angels or the Chiffons...you may think of her as a pop classicist." Jerome Clark, Rambles.net
