LLCC is happy to announce that Great Decisions has come back. Great Decisions was the first course that was offered by LLCC back in 2012. This course is Part 2 of Great Decisions 2019. Part 1 was presented earlier this year.
Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. The program encourages debate and discussion of the important global issues of our time, using study materials from the Foreign Policy Association (independent and non-partisan) to help reach informed opinions. Each year, Great Decisions highlights eight of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans. Great Decisions 2019 is divided into two courses, discussing four of the topics from the Great Decisions 2019 Briefing Book in each course.
To fully participate in this course, each participant must obtain their own Great Decisions 2019 Briefing Book from the Foreign Policy Association.The book costs $32, plus shipping, at the Foreign Policy Association website. We understand that the Foreign Policy Association ships very quickly. It is a good idea to order the book as soon as you register for the course. If you already bought the book for Part 1 you do not need to buy another book.
The course will be run as the original LLCC Great Decisions course with attendee participation in leading and discussing topics listed in the Foreign Affairs booklet, Great Decisions 2019. The course was divided in two 4 session parts:
Part I was presented this last Spring of 2019 and Part II is now being offered this coming Fall.
Each session will be a class discussion of the topic led by one or two class members using the associated article & DVD for Great Decisions 2019 as background material. Attendees are asked to come prepared to participate in the group discussions.
The topics for Part Two of this course are:
5. Decoding U.S.-China Trade,
6. Cyber Conflicts and Geopolitics,
7.The United States and Mexico: Partnership Tested,
8 State of the State Department and Diplomacy.
This is a very participatory class: each weekly session will be led by a class member or members.
Note: The same Briefing Book will be used for both Part 1 and Part 2 of this course.
Registering for this course by buying a ticket will admit you to all four sessions of this course.
Paul Greiling has led the Great Decisions class in the past. Dr. Greiling was a Professor at UCLA and Manager of a research microelectronics Laboratory @Hughes Research Labs
