A Bronnie Griffin Music production!
When The Irish Musicians of Portland United take the stage at the Winona Grange on November 23th at 7:30pm, theyll be bringing more than their immense individual talent. Theyll also be bringing along their hearts.
The featured musicians, comprised of Na Rosai (www.narosai.com), Brongaene Griffin (recording artist whose 2010 release Three Colours Ginger was called seriously good by Irish Philadelphia), guitarist Cary Novotny, fiddler of Ockhams Razor fame Patricia Fairman, and percussionist Joe Trump, are performing in support of A Renaissance School of Arts and Sciences.
I've spent many years attempting to build unity and a common ethos amongst the Irish music community in Portland and its great to see this fledgling event come together to support such a deserving cause says Griffin about A Renaissance School of Arts and Sciences.  Some of the gigs I have enjoyed the most over the years, continues Griffin, have been fundraisers or just unpaid events.  I was introduced to playing for causes by Cary (Novotny) back in the early 2000s when he would ask me to join him pro bono at Doernbecher Childrens Hospital.  That was when I first saw the looks on faces who rarely get to hear live acoustic music and Ive enjoyed doing it ever since.  We need more giving in our communities.  Cary and I along with several other musicians locally have since then played for Physicians for Social Responsibility among others non-profits including gallery showings, and it always gives me a sense of pride to give back to the community in that way.
That these musicians can meld such a necessary mission with the strength of their talents is to their credit. Griffin intends to follow this event with an annual fundraiser for the school going forward.
