Quintet of the Americas in Concert
A celebration of 40 years of Quintet of the Americas woodwind quintet commissions with global influences. Selections will include works written for the ensemble by Xinyan Li, Michael Colina, Edmund Cionek. Robert Deemer, David Dzubay, Dylan Glatthorn, Max Lifchitz, Steven Mackey, Robert Paterson, Neil Rolnick, Ricardo Romaneiro, Daniel Ott, Adam Schoenberg, and Enrique Ubieta. New commissions to be premiered include a quintet by Queens resident Gilbert Galindo and a new piano wind sextet by Cuban composer Ernesto Oliva.
Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, Quintet of the Americas has specialized in bringing music from the Western hemisphere to audiences in the United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. The group has enjoyed an international career that has taken them to concert halls throughout the Americas and Eastern Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, and the Library of Congress. Members are Karla Moe, flute, Matt Sullivan, oboe, Ben Baron, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn and Sasha Gee Enegren, bassoon.
