Celtic Community Night with Michael Steen-Orr
Connecting Celtic Appreciators in Portland PORTLAND CELTIC COMMUNITY NIGHT Second Wednesday every month.
The goal is simple: Create a stronger, vibrant, and more unified community of Celtic musicians, dancers, and artists, and appreciators within the Portland, Oregon region. By hosting evenings that include performances by local and regional bands and artists, followed by an open traditional music and dance session, we can help foster a fun and inclusive environment where everyone can appreciate and participate in Celtic culture.
Michael sings unaccompanied traditional songs from Ireland. He has been studying traditional Irish singing with his singing mentor, All-Ireland Singing Champion Brian OhAirt-with whom he recently completed the Oregon Folklife Networks Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program-for the last two years. Hes deeply inspired by old recordings of singers who have passed, the elder singers he has met and spent time with in Ireland and the US as well as his younger contemporaries who are carrying the tradition forward. He hosts a monthly event, Oiche na nAmhrannight of song at T.C. OLearys on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 8pm which aims to celebrate and explore the songs, tunes, dances and poetry of Ireland and you are very welcome to attend.
