The Atomic Mr. Basie Guitar Trio
Logan Butler - guitar Kevin Beardsley - bass Xavier Ware - drums
Local Greensboro guitarist, Logan Butler, has always been fascinated by improvised music. Growing up listening to mostly rock and blues like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Rush he eventually found his way to jazz, opening up a whole new world of musical possibilities. His new love for jazz led him to the UNCG Miles Davis Jazz Studies program where he honed his technical facility on the guitar and his knowledge of jazz history and the great performers and composers of this music, being particularly influenced by the work of Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Ornette Coleman, and John Scofield. After graduating from UNCG earlier this year he has taken on a project that was inspired by a concert given by the UNCG Jazz Ensemble I during his senior year: the music of Count Basies quintessential album The Atomic Mr. Basie. Together with Kevin Beardsley (bass) and Xavier Ware (drums) they will bring you classic genre-defining tunes from one of the most popular big bands of its time that have been re-conceptualized for a more modern ensemble. This will be a unique musical revival that is not to be missed!
