Create & Make Workshop: Hands-on Henna
Henna is an ancient art form, used for millennia to beautify the skin and connect individuals and families through body adornment. Wherever the henna plant grows, there is evidence of its use going back before the written word. In this workshops participants will learn the history of henna from ancient uses to modern applications. And then? We play! Henna is a hands on art. Each participant will be provided with a cone of fresh, natural, handmade henna and paper to practice on, a few design ideas to practice copying, and then good posture and technique will be demonstrated.
All materials and tools supplied.
About the Instructor: Antoinette was first introduced to henna in 1997 and started a two year apprenticeship with an established local artist in 2000. In that apprenticeship, among her many tasks she assisted her teacher with "Hands on Henna" classes, both at the business location and at local libraries and community centers. She also helped train future professional henna artists.
In 2007 she created her own business, Magic Magpie Studio, with acrylic art in henna style as her primary focus. In 2009 she attended a henna conference in Las Vegas, and began her career as a henna artist in earnest. In the subsequent years, she has continued to bring high quality henna to the Pacific Northwest, with a focus on natural and safe henna products. She opened a storefront in the Greenlake neighborhood in 2011, where customers can come be adorned with beautiful henna.
