Allemande Left
Direction: Emily Kessler Performance: Sienna Blaw, Emily Kessler, Xin Yi Pang, Madeline Robertson, Kathryn Taylor Music: Eric Shekerjian Costumes: Toya Dubin
"Allemande Left" is an exploration of Sol Lewitt's early wall drawings as translated to a dancescape. The work is primarily inspired by the contents and instructions of "Wall Drawing #146", where five types of lines are arranged sequentially on one another, splayed into grand space. Five dancers embody the five forms of lines in flux. They experiment with abstract combinations, moving both into and away from communal ritualized form. A rumination and extrapolation of a methodical structure, "Allemande Left" takes five dancers through a maze of their own making.
