John Manns Artist Reception
This exhibit marks a return to painting after 20 years. My work for this exhibit is focused on gentleness and intimacy, using common and small scale images such as bees, cats, flowers, and crows. The gentle things that inspire this work lend themselves to the small dimensions of the paintings. I want them to hangs gently in well used rooms of our homes and keep us company.
I was a studio Artist since the age of 19 and studied fine art at Truman University in Missouri and Atlanta College of Art in Atlanta. At the age of 23 I was showing at four galleries and my large scale abstract work was hanging at Laguardia Airport and other public and corporate installations around the US. I taught drawing and illustration at the American College of The Applied Arts in Atlanta, Ga. At the age of 40, I moved to Portland, Oregon and opened an Art Gallery named the Galactic Gallery. The gallery became a school where many teachers and I taught classes. I developed a class titled "Dreaming With Your Hands. I closed the gallery and and my painting studio in 1997.
