Valentines Day with Lantz and Kargul
PSQ violinist Ronald Lantz and pianist Laura Kargul, Director of Keyboard Studies at USM, will offer another of their popular Valentine's Day concerts, this time inspired by the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth. In celebration of both Beethoven and the holiday of love they will perform a violin/piano arrangement of his groundbreaking song cycle, An die ferne Geliebte, "To the Distant Beloved," thought to have been inspired by his own "Immortal Beloved." Also on the program is the Poème of Chausson, one of the most impassioned works in all of violin literature. Originally titled "Le chant d'amour triomphant," after Turgenev's novella of the same name, it too expresses the torment of longing for one's beloved across a great distance. Works by Liszt, Fauré, Debussy and Piazzolla will complete this intimate afternoon of heart-stopping romance.
